< BACK TO SERMONS

In the early days of the Hollywood western, marshals, sheriffs and law-abiding citizens were mostly regarded as “good guys.” Conversely, rustlers, gunslingers and other outlaws were likely considered “bad guys.” Usually the difference between the good and the bad [not to mention the ugly] was depicted by the color of his (or her) hat. Good guys wore a white hat while bad guys wore a black hat. In time, Hollywood almost completely removed itself from such an obvious contrast between the two groups.
In real life, however, the color of one’s hat (or even not wearing one) has little or nothing to do with discerning moral behavior or any particular code of conduct. While the mention of any kind of hat in Scripture is rare indeed, the Bible is replete with real men and women who were seemingly white-hat qualified. (Most, at various times in their lives, would have qualified for both!) In July, we're teaching a four-week sermon series on some of the good guys of genesis; namely: Noah, Abraham, Jacob and Joseph. Join us as we take a peek into the lives of these four men--men we think were good enough to wear a white hat.
